Losing a job is tough.  After getting past the initial shock, a flurry of thoughts likely entered your mind.  How will I pay for groceries?  How will I make rent?  It's especially difficult to manage life's expenses without that steady paycheck.  The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) offers unemployment benefits to qualified individuals who lost their job or are working reduced hours.

Unfortunately, it's common that employees are denied their unemployment benefits.  You may be denied benefits if your former employer claims they terminated you for cause.  What your employer says to justify your termination may not be cause under the law.  You can also be denied benefits for voluntarily leaving work.  However, there are exceptions that may apply if you left the job because of a medical illness for you or your minor child, an injury, disability, pregnancy, or having to move due to a military spouse's permanent change of station or tour of duty.  Your employer may have forced you to sign a resignation letter in lieu of being terminated.  This resignation may not necessarily prevent you from obtaining benefits.

Fighting a denial of claims is tough, and navigating the process is a headache.  I'm here to help.  The appeals process has tight deadlines. Missing one jeopardizes your rights to unemployment benefits.  Don't overlook or ignore the paperwork you receive from the TWC.  Reach out to me as soon as you're denied your benefits.  I offer free initial consultations and charge a simple flat fee for unemployment benefits appeals.
